what I love most is that you really start seeing in the data that there is literally no way to win!!! men hate thick eyebrows AND thin eyebrows AND bleached eyebrows and I bet if they knew some ppl shave their eye brows off they'd hate that too!!! there is no eyebrow option that men will be satisfied with!!! changing your appearance for men is a net loss!!!!
Wait people bleach their eyebrows?! Also thin vs thick eyebrows being hated, they probably just like regular eyebrows (“medium?”). I know that’s what I prefer. Just, normal eyebrows.
Girl, SAME. I sew my own clothes, I could give zero f’s about whether men find me attractive or not. My personal style is not dictated by gaze. Maybe it comes with age, but men acting like pigs in public is a them problem. If a dude is bothering you on purpose, just tell them to GTFO of your space bubble. I’m not interested in shrinking/cloaking myself to avoid harassment. Not in the modern age. 🤷🏻♀️
I agree that we should be absolutely free to wear whatever we want. But if you’re sick of the constant comments from men, men pushing against you in subway, on buses, escalators etc then maybe wearing clothes that don’t appeal so much might help. Be really great to be able to walk around in the city - OR in your workplace without hearing the comments.
Could be these but also those Tabi shoes with the cloven toes come to mind. Given that the mitochondria are the powerhouses of cells, I am thankful for whatever it is he hates.
You perhaps are correct with the word faces. That doesn’t make it sound any less stupid. The English language is obtuse; and you seem much too sensitive.
Imagine having the audacity to think that your opinion on how another humans butt looks in their pants matters so much or even matters at all.
For what it’s worth, I have two very baggy drop crotch cotton rompers that I rotate. They are comfortable and ugly as hell. And I look like a five year old on art day in kindergarten when I wear them. I wear them because I love them. And I love how I feel in them. Now I’m going to add a bucket hat and platform shoes.
There is an entire generation of ppl (I'm one of them) who are hard wired to high waisted=mom jeans. When your entire life it's just been a known thing that a certain look is unflattering - and then ppl start wearing it non-ironically... It's hard to adjust. Everyone will experience this is their life. I've been forcing myself to experiment with high waisted pants because I think it's healthy to break brain habits. It's been surprisingly hard.
I remember when high waisted pants first became a thing in the 70s. I despised them as I’m so short waisted that they buttoned over my ribcage landing just under my bra. So uncomfortable! Makes short girls look very misshaped.
Didn't see the 'pointy toe shoe' hate coming because I always thought the general consensus was that they looked proper/elegant. I love me a pointy toe shoe and my boyfriend finds them amusing haha. HOWEVER, I must acknowledge that some pointed shoes are so long in the front that they start to look like shoes that elves would wear... is that why?! Lol
I actually asked a male friend about this (who hates a pointy toe) and he said it reminds him either of medieval shoes or substitute teachers 😅 which just feels like a personal problem
I don’t find them flattering on me cos I am very short and curvy, and I think what they do to my silhouette’s proportions are weird haha, but I do think they are often very chic!
I'm wearing Capri style running tights right now, with an oversized shirt. No bucket hat but I will gave on big sunglasses when I go out for my run today. I will mark myself safe from unwanted male comments.
1) Love the explanation for how you pulled and processed the data. It was so satisfying to read about.
2) I’m really interested in the comment about an empire waste making people look pregnant and men not liking that. I’m wondering if it’s because they think pregnant bodies are disgusting or if it’s because, like wearing a fake wedding/engagement ring, it symbolizes that she has already been taken by another. I’m sure there are other possibilities, I would just love to hear about why they think this!
Empire waist is like a pixie cut, it only looks good on a small subset of women to the “modern” male mind. Unlike a pixie cut though, they can get used to it and then appreciate a woman wearing an empire waist dress because it isnt inherently ugly like a pixie cut usually (but not always) is (anyone who can look good with a pixie cut can always look good with longer hair though so why do it? Idk). In some ways an empire waist is more feminine than any other waist, because it makes your lower abdomen stick out and if a woman isnt fat she’ll have a bump there where her womb is. This kinda got unappreciated aesthetically for a long time because low-rise pants would sit right there and it really deemphasizes it, so from like 1990-2015 or whatever (I have no idea I am not a fashion guy), boys formed their conception of beauty without that being emphasized. Other than that though a lot of women are some level of fat and if youre fat an empire waist may make you look like a blimp unless your breasts are at the level of some sort of swiss fertillity goddess. In which case, all the rules are different and you can probably wear almost whatever you want as long as it is fairly feminine, but straying from that can be trickier/is probably the only way to look bad.
What gender do you identify with so I can reread your comment with that context?
I want to understand whether you’re speaking on behalf of a single man’s opinion (yours) and extrapolating to the larger group, or as a commentary on your perception of the group.
If my husband likes my outfit I go change it bc he has no style, bless his heart

there is just no winning with eyebrows, the massive amount of COMMENTARY on such a small part of the body was crazy
perhaps they would prefer we did not have eyebrows at all? then no question of thick/thin required 🙏
Wait people bleach their eyebrows?! Also thin vs thick eyebrows being hated, they probably just like regular eyebrows (“medium?”). I know that’s what I prefer. Just, normal eyebrows.
>men hate thick eyebrows AND thin eyebrows AND bleached eyebrows and I bet if they knew some ppl shave their eye brows off they'd hate that too!!!
Obviously not all men think alike then, and it's impossible to appeal to all
Can we have the same data on female conversations?
Man attracting outfits man repelling outfits.
It’s all still about them. It’s still all man centric fashion.
How bout I wear what I like outfits.
How bout if I like it I have no concern for mens opinion.

Yay, Kelly!
What are mitochondria shaped shoes, lol. Pic for context please
This is what "mitochondria shoes" made me think of lol https://www.amazon.com/Eohsnem-Slippers-Lightweight-Sneakers-Breathable/dp/B0C2HSLCR1?
haha could definitely be these
Could be these but also those Tabi shoes with the cloven toes come to mind. Given that the mitochondria are the powerhouses of cells, I am thankful for whatever it is he hates.
Thinking now it might be all of the super colourful poofy hokas? like this > https://www.hoka.com/nl/nl/outlet-dames/tecton-x-2/196565196545.html?
I have been trying to find these and I cannot! What was this man talking about 😅😅
someone tell us so i can buy a pair!!!
The way I'm still thinking about what these could be... I was looking at these ballet sneakers I own and they could be mitochondria-looking? Lol https://www.uslazyoaf.com/products/happy-sad-lace-up-ballet-sneaker
I thought they were, like Tabis? And unflattering high-vamp ballet flats?
That part had me taking a long pause lmao is he trying to refer to ballet flats with criss-cross laces? 🩰
thankfully i don't care about what men think <3 i'll never take style advice from men when most of them don't even wash their faces!
Sorry about that guy!! What the fuck honestly. He’s blocked now
omg ty no worries! i just had time today i was bored ngl 😭💗 appreciate it shshksksk
I think the article is meant to help pick clothes that will stop men bothering you!
Do you imply that men have numerous faces?
.......if you looked closely at the grammar here, men is used plural in this sentence hence "most" "their" and "faces" please don't be obtuse ❤️
Men is plural.
and that's what i said ❤️ glad to know you can't read and your got ya moment failed! now go and have the day you deserve!
By the way, men cannot be used as a singular reference. Maybe you forgot.
maybe you're annoying ❤️ begone and be mad elsewhere!

Pointy Shoe Rejection Theory: Somewhere in the male hindbrain he imagines being kicked in the nuts with the pointy shoe, and that sounds awful.
Wow. I’m like actually shocked.

That's my best guess -- pointed toes that look witchy?
I also thought that the witchiness might be a factor!
I always assumed it was a subconscious fear that we’re going to kick them in a vulnerable region…
THIS.
I don’t find them flattering on me cos I am very short and curvy, and I think what they do to my silhouette’s proportions are weird haha, but I do think they are often very chic!
I love the data analysis!!!!!
And, lol at long butts you will have to pry my high-waisted everythings from my cold, dead hands
Right? So much better than those low rise pants sliding down. Yuck, glad those are out.
"glad those are out"
I have news for you...
Ugh.
Pointy toes hurt when they hit the testicles
Especially for the trans crowd.
Pardon?

love how they hate both high waist and low waist, there truly is no way to win

Because they can't tell if your body is pleasing to them.
I mean, I'm a woman and I really struggle with empire waists because they tend to make me or others look pregnant.
It's just not flattering

of course it’s a man
I am a man in my mid 30s and have discussed empire waist and pixie cuts with male friends and acquaintances, particularly the pixie cuts.
ugh
wtf is balaclava doing on the list?? "Stop being warm, woman!"
See also: puffer jacket.
Lol, fuck that.
Right?
They hate pointy shoes because they fear the damage they can do to certain… extremities
