August is the best time of year for fashion — you can fight me on this. I remember being a tween/teen/uni student and spending all my free time in August flipping through the September issues of Teen Vogue, Vogue, and binge-watching the fashion YouTubers I followed back then (where are they now? I have no clue) to see what they were buying for fall. The funny thing is, I wasn’t worried about following trends like we (I) do now. I remember seeing cuffed skinny jeans paired with ballet flats in the 2010 Back-To-School issue of Teen Vogue and immediately styling all my skinny jeans that way. It was more about getting inspired for what I could wear that fall or how I could restyle my older cousin’s abercrombie hand-me-downs rather than obsessing over a list of ‘7 things you need to buy for fall.’

So, to bring back that sense of fall fashion inspiration, I’m breaking down my fall trend report into two parts. First, I’ll cover the four (and a half) themes and aesthetics that are happening in fashion right now. These are more about general references that you can take inspiration from them, rather than getting bogged down by specific silhouettes, colors, or pieces—don’t worry, I’ll get to those in part two. What I love about aesthetic-driven trends is how thrift-able or DIY-able they are. Instead of being told you need to buy a certain piece or brand, these trends are more like a mood board for your next thrift haul or maybe even a way to restyle pieces you already own. And with that, here are the aesthetic trends that are going to continue growing and evolving this fall.

P.S. This post is too long for email and will get cut-off (I’ve shoved it full with 3000 words and as many links, videos, photos as I can) so I would recommend going to read it in the Substack app or desktop.

P.P.S. Part 1 of my fall fashion series is for paid subscribers (or accessible on a free trial) but part 2 will be for free/open to all - so sign up to have part 2 in your inbox 💙
